Understanding rosacea, flushing and thread veins, and how laser treatment at Oliver Medina Clinic in Carlton restores calm, even-toned skin.

Understanding redness

Redness is rarely just redness. For many of our clients it has been part of daily life for years: the flush that arrives with a glass of wine, the warmth that lingers after a walk in the cold, the fine vessels that make-up never quite covers.

Rosacea affects around one in ten people in the UK, most often between the ages of 30 and 60. It is not poor skincare. It is not adult acne. It is a long-term inflammatory condition, and understanding exactly which form of redness you have is where meaningful results begin.

It is not poor skincare. It is not adult acne.

The three faces of redness

1. Flushing

Temporary and triggered: heat, alcohol, spice, stress, exercise. It rises and fades, and it is often the first sign.

2. Persistent redness

A constant warmth across the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead. This is diffuse inflammation rather than individual vessels, and it does not settle on its own.

3. Thread veins

Fine red lines, most often around the nostrils and across the cheeks. These are permanently dilated vessels. No cream will clear them.

Most clients arrive with all three. Each responds differently, which is why every plan here begins with a proper assessment rather than a treatment.

The foundations

Before any laser, three things matter.

1. Your triggers

Two weeks of noting what preceded each flare almost always reveals a pattern. Sun is the most common trigger of all, which makes daily SPF the most valuable habit you can build.

2. Your routine

Most rosacea-prone skin is being over-treated. Stripping cleansers, strong acids and scrubs all deepen the problem. A gentle cleanser, a barrier-supporting moisturiser and high-factor protection are the foundation everything else is built upon.

3. Honest advice about where to start

Where redness comes with spots and pustules, prescription care from your GP or dermatologist is often the right first step. We will tell you so, and we would rather do that than treat something that isn’t ours to treat.

Redness with spots: often best started with your GP.

Laser for rosacea at Oliver Medina Clinic

Where visible vessels and persistent redness remain, laser is the treatment that changes things.

Laser energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin within the vessel, gently heating the vessel wall so the body can clear it naturally. Surrounding skin is left untouched. The result is calmer, more even-toned skin, and vessels that genuinely disappear rather than being concealed.

  • Treatment time: 30 to 45 minutes

  • Pain level: A brief warmth, often described as a flicked elastic band. No anaesthetic required.

  • Downtime: Redness for a few hours up to two days

  • Results: Build progressively over a course of sessions

  • From: £395 cheeks, £445 full face

An honest word on results

Rosacea is managed, not cured. We will not tell you otherwise.

What we can offer is skin that is calmer, clearer and far less reactive, with the vessels cleared and the background flush reduced. Most clients return for occasional maintenance, and most tell us they simply stop thinking about their redness. That is the goal.

Frequently asked questions

Can rosacea be cured?

No. It is a long-term condition, but it responds well to the right care and can be controlled beautifully.

Briefly. The treatment works on blood vessels, so a short period of flushing afterwards is expected and settles quickly.

We usually calm the inflammatory side first, often alongside your GP, then treat the redness that remains.

Settings differ considerably by skin type, and some treatments are not appropriate for every tone. This is assessed at your consultation, and we will always be straightforward with you.
